Q: Are there crocodiles in Horseshoe Lake? A: No. Horseshoe Lake is a freshwater lake. Crocodiles prefer salt water.
Q: Are there snakes in Horseshoe Lake? A: There are snakes all over the world, including Horseshoe Lake, but sightings are rare and the snakes are much more afraid of us than we are of them. As rare as the sightings are, we still encourage everyone to exercise caution when heading into areas of overgrowth around the lake. There is so much activity in the swimming area of the beach that a snake is highly unlikely to venture over.
Q: What kind of fish can I catch in Horseshoe Lake? A: Any freshwater fish native to South Carolina, but please always check in with the office to find out which varieties we are currently harvesting as they are on a rotation to ensure there will remain a plentiful stock for all.
Q: I know your office is only open Friday thru Monday, but if I am a member, may I still utilize the facilities any day from dawn to dusk? A: Yes
Q: May I bring a friend? A: Guests are allowed two visits with a paid member before being required to obtain their own membership. Guest passes for swimming and riding are $5 per guest per day or $10 per person per day for fishing.
Q: Do you sell bait? A: No, F&B Grocery next door carries worms and a small store just 1/4 mile west carries bait.
Q: Do we need to bring our own firewood? A: Yes
Q: Where is the closest store? A: The town of Cottageville has a Dollar General and is six miles away. There's also a Walmart and Reid's in Walterboro, 12 miles west of us. Summerville is 20 miles east of us and has just about any store you'd like. F&B Grocery is next door, but has a very limited selection. A Stop & Shop gas station is 7 miles east.
Q: Are there any restaurants close by? A: Bee City is just two miles east of us and has a nice cafe. There's also a nice cafe in downtown Cottageville, six miles away.
Q: Is there cell phone service at the farm? A: If you wrap aluminum foil around your entire torso, put a metal rod in your mouth, and climb to the top of the tallest pine tree, maybe... but only maybe :-) But, hey, you're coming here to get away from it all, right?
Q: Is there Wi-Fi available? A: Yes, in almost every major traffic area on the farm, but not in every spot... especially the more remote parts. But... again... you are coming here to get away from it all, right? :-)
Q: Is there cable TV? A: OH, for crying out loud!!!!!!! We thought you were coming here to get away from it all?!?!?!? lol Seriously, if you are in an RV and you have a digital decoder box, you can pick up 7-10 basic tv channels and the cabins are not equipped with televisions.
Q: May I bring my own boat? A: Yes, but no gas engines are allowed... only trolling motors.
Q: And the #1 most asked question... "Where is the best spot to catch fish?" A: In the water ;-)
Q: Do you allow hunting? A: No weapons of any kind are allowed on the premises. The only animal you may harm here is a fish and only if you're using your hook and then your teeth, tongue, and lips to do it with. :-)
